I threatened for 3 years to paint my car. It took 1 1/2 years to decide on the style. It took 3 days of mostly sunny skies to complete the project. The idea is to paint a cartoon of a car. Each part of the car is outlined in black. The color is red and yellow smooshed together to make orange. The roof of the car was inspired by the minis. I liked the idea of treating the roof differently than the rest of the car. However it wasn't until I was on my step ladder that I decided what to put on the roof. I had been leaning toward a peace sign. Then I had the idea of putting it in a thought bubble to keep in line with the cartoon theme. I visualized myself driving through traffic thinking of peace and POW it occurred to me that it would be so much more appropriate to fill the bubble with cartoon swear words. You like?

How did you do this?

I sanded the car with a sandy thing attached to an electric drill. I primed areas of the beast that had gone to rust. I used exterior semi-gloss paint in red, yellow, white, and black. I taped off the areas that I didn't want painted, but I have to say that often, tape offers one a false sense of security. Usually you have to go back around anyway and retouch the areas where the paint got under the tape. I don't care if it's regular masking tape or the lower tack painter's tape, it's all the same.

I will add a couple of coats of clear, high-gloss protective coating just for extra insurance, but I believe that this paint job will do quite well.
